Memorium To Maurice: A short-haired, brown tabby tuxedo with Greenish hazel eyes. D.O.B: Unknown Birth-Name: Unknown
The Maurice experience. Not much to say other than his introduction into my cat-experience at the time seemed like a forced-marriage. To begin with I was not wowed by his adoptive name, Dopey. So, I named him Maurice. Impulsive first impressions.
Maurice’s adoption came about in a roundabout way. Someone at my wife’s job circulated an email about a cat being up for adoption. The reason given for the offering included allergy in the family and such. When my wife heard about the offer, being the cat-lady that she is, she investigated and eventually adopted Dopey.
Almost immediately, territorial issues arose between the cats. He was aggressive and did not play well with Massie and Williie. Nor with his human handlers whom he would hiss at, scratch and bite unexpectedly.
We suspect that Maurice came from an unkind or neglectful environment. He definitely was not the playful nor the cuddly type of cat. Grafield is cute, cuddly and playful. Maurice mostly looked like he wanted to claw your eyes out. So, of course, a lot of avoidance happened. And the discontent mounted between him and the other cats.
In time, he began to soften up, a long time. Unfortunately, he was older than we had been led to believe. About 18 months after we had adopted him he developed kidney issues. Of which he eventually died.
