Memorium To Moka: A short-haired Calico with green eyes, D.O.B: Unknown Birth-Name: Unknown
Moka was adopted from a cat-shelter, a few months after William; she was about 7 years old. A beautiful female calico. Willie and Moka did not take to each other as she made it clear that she was the queen when she made herself comfortable on the bed, Willie’s domain at that point. He spent the entire night sulking, stalking and hissing around the bedroom. It took about two weeks before they began to tolerate each other.
It turned out that Moka used to be an outdoors cat. She would sit by the windows, look out at the birds and become extremely frustrated – her teeth chattering as she growled. It was like a war cry with her.
Moka was a mouser and killer of birds that accidentally entered the house through the fireplace. Willie, meanwhile, would get somewhat excited but would mostly watch with dilated pupils as Moka did the dirty-work. Typical male behaviour!
After a tooth abscess that did not heal well, Moka developed an infection from which she died one year later she died. It took Willlie a while to re-adjust to being the only cat again. His behaviour showed that he was upset as he constantly meowed, prowled about, became aggressive and angrily lashed out. Typical green-eyed creature?
As time eased the loss and sorrow, after one year of mourning Moka’s death, Willie was introduced to a new companion, Marcel. A little tabby of tabby caramel and white fur, who purred like a Harley-Davidson. Marcel was named in honour of my wife’s maternal-grandfather.
At first, Willie was not overly excited with Marcel, the kitty around. At times, Massie appeared to be a nuisance. But Willie warmed up to Massie and became his big brother with whom he would cuddle, sleep and play. Eventually, they became an inseparable pair.
